1. Try and use a company with a landline telephone and a contact address.
2. Never make full payment before the move, a deposit is fine, but give the removals company some incentive to turn up and complete the job, once you have paid it will be very difficult to get you money back.
3. Fixed quotes are better than hourly rates in my opinion, there is no incentive to complete the move quickly on an hourly rate, the longer it takes the more it will cost you.
4. If your not to sure of the Taxi Vans you've hired, don't let him travel alone with your belongings, we've heard to many stories of the vans not arriving at the destination, people have lost everything they own.
5. If you have to let the Taxi Vans travel alone with your goods, take the registration number, this will help the police if your possessions don't reach their destination.
6. Ladies on their own should take care, it is dangerous to let a man, who you don't know into your home, try and get a friend or family member you.
7. Ask about insurance, Taxi Vans companies will only be able to get Transit insurance at the most. If they say they have full insurance ask to see their insurance certificate.
8. Make sure you see some references, a testimonial from a familiar face (large company, celebrity etc.) is a good sign.
9. We get calls from people saying the van they have hired is too small, thinking all Taxi Vanss use Luton vans, well they don't, the majority use Transits, which are absolutely useless for furniture moves, ask them the type of vans they use.
10. There lots of websites which look great but never have pictures of vans with their men at work, this is a big give away.
11. If you need further proof, Check out this link www.wevet.com it is one of the biggest scams going on in London .
12. "Don't say you haven't been warned".
